Hi, all!
I logged onto my computer this morning, which is actually the shared family machine, to discover that my dad and I no longer have administrator privleges. Am I correct in assuming that at least one account must have them? If so, that means my brother has them, and I don't have his password. I need administrative privleges for some of my antivirus/antispyware programs to run properly.
Without the brother's password, am I screwed?

Ben, I would be interested in your suggestion. Frankly, I can't think of a way to get around the password crap.

And Troy, I agree with you, I never password anything on my computer (at least not at the loggon level), but, I'm virtually the only one using my computer.

If I did have separate loggons, I'd make damned sure we all used the same password, and anyone not following that rule would get kicked off just as soon as I could get back on.

You don't really need everyone to have the same password, as long as they don't have admin rights.
The that i do it is that the computer that everyone uses in are dining room has users for everyone but they don't have admin rights, no, not even mine.
Theres then the built in account for administrating stuff in xp, just called administrator that doesn't show up on the user screen that has admin rights.
This way, noone can mess with other peoples accounts, and i can control what goes on there aswell to prevent it from becoming slow, because i am the only one that can put stuff on there coz noone else has the admin pwd.
But on the atic computer and my brothers i just put admin rights on them coz i don't really mind what goes on them, coz all i have to do is backup about 5 gig and then do a format every 6 months.
I wish that i didn't have to put passwords on my computers, but in a bording school, you really need to.
Bob, i'll pm you.
BEN.
